Attaching lace to a bra
Sometimes you want to attach lace to make the upper edge of the bra cup.
Lay the lace on top, where it needs to be - you could use both ends.
Once you’re happy with the layout, cut the lace, leaving some extra to use to adjust it. Pin it into position along the sewing line.
Use a small zigzag (1,1) to sew along the firm edge of the lace (not the netting, which will tear when you wear it), then cut the lace to match the edge of the pattern piece.
Cut away the fabric from behind the lace, making sure that you don’t cut the lace itself.
Sew your pieces together making sure they align where you want them. You will note in this picture that I sewed along the lace where I was going to trim away the tricot, as well as sewing the lace to the tricot near where the seam line was going to be. There was no point in trimming away the tricot along that edge, as the lace was solid.
Completed bra.
This lace had a firm outer edge, so I didn’t need to reinforce it at the top of the cup. More delicate lace would need reinforcement.
First, lay the pieces that you want to use the lace on, flat, right side up, next to one another. Before you cut the lace you need to work out what it’s going to look like, and whether you want the cups to be symmetrical or otherwise.
